Happening @ UNITY 2012 Call for Application for the New U 2012 Start-Up Camp
Only six (6) spots are available for five (5) members of the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) and one member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). Thank you for your interest in New U: News Entrepreneurs Working through UNITY, a project funded by the Ford Foundation and supported by UNITY: Journalists. This project is designed to give journalists of color training in entrepreneurship, and support them as they develop their specific business concepts using the tools New U provides. Those accepted as a New U Fellow become part of a unique team: each Fellow is assigned a direct mentor who has already launched a small business. Participants will also spend two and a half tightly-scheduled days listening to and learning from industry experts - venture capitalists, legal experts, marketing and communications professionals, writers and people who call themselves "serial entrepreneurs".

The NewU Loft @ UNITY '12 Are you a journalist who wants to start up your own company, and have no idea how to do it? Do you have a company and need to find a way to connect to others who can help you grow? Come to UNITY 2012 this August in Las Vegas, because we're going to help you take the next steps towards business success! For three days, entrepreneurs will convene in a large room with fellow start-up CEO's who are current or former journalists, angel investors and business coaches. The people behind NewU, a program that helps journalists of color become media owners, will offer relevant panel discussions and pitch sessions so you can learn the art of convincing an investor to support your company. At the end of each day, we'll have a meetup where you'll get the chance to rub elbows with those who are already in the game, and are winning. Come to Las Vegas, register for UNITY and sign up for our Startup Loft. The Loft will be open from 10-5 Thursday and Friday of the conference and from 9-3 on Saturday. Come each morning to sign up for one-on-one coaching sessions and panel discussions.
